Description

We seek a talented Technical Account Manager to join our Japan team and serve as the front-line leader driving customer satisfaction. In this role, you’ll handle technical and architectural inquiries related to Upstream’s solutions, architecture, and integration within the customer ecosystem.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in AI/ML, Cloud, Data Management, and Cybersecurity, with the ability to think critically, troubleshoot complex issues, and manage multiple technical projects in parallel from design to successful delivery. You’ll collaborate closely with customers, partners, and internal teams to ensure seamless implementations and create measurable value.

This role requires someone who is proactive, analytical, and passionate about technology — a trusted advisor who can both evangelize Upstream’s innovation and guide customers through technical and strategic challenges.

This is a full-time position based in Tokyo, Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with prospects and customers to convey the technical and business value of Upstream’s products and solutions.
  • Gather requirements, identify challenges, design solutions, conduct presentations and demos, and lead technical workshops.
  • Collaborate with customers, partners, Sales, and Customer Success teams to execute Proofs-of-Concept (POCs), technical engagements, and product evaluations.
  • Lead the design and implementation of GenAI-based cloud data management and security solutions integrating multiple vendor and OEM systems.
  • Provide proactive technical account management, including service reviews, escalation handling, and strategic advisory.
  • Drive customer satisfaction and continuous improvement across customer and partner experiences (MSSPs, SIs, and technology partners).
  • Respond to RFx processes and define technical requirements for POCs and deployments.
  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships and trust with customers and partners.
  • Assess customer business needs, infrastructure, security, and compliance requirements to recommend optimal solutions.
  • Identify and develop value creation and upsell opportunities.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Upstream’s technology, products, and services.

Requirements

  • Native Japanese speaker with fluent English communication skills.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Account Manager, Sales Engineer, Pre-Sales Engineer, or similar technical customer-facing role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience supporting sales teams in AI/ML, Cloud, Data Management, or Cybersecurity domains.
  • Demonstrated success interfacing with CIO, CISO, and senior technical stakeholders in the automotive industry.
  • Deep technical knowledge of AI/ML, Cloud, and cybersecurity technologies, with the ability to stay current on emerging trends.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a focus on achieving results and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; capable of working effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Fast learner, collaborative team player, and adaptable problem solver in a dynamic, global environment.
  • Experience delivering technical training and onboarding is a plus.
